LA MANGROVE

CORPOS - Hubert Petit-Phar & Augusto Soledade

SYNOPSIS

Bringing together artists from Brazil and Guadeloupe (French West Indies), Corpos examines the black ‘masculine’ to liberate human creativity.

Corpos is an encounter based on a common exploration: ‘the stigmatisation of the black body, the body as a political tool’. Corpos was created by Hubert Petit-Phar, a Guadeloupean, and Augusto Soledade, a choreographer from Bahia, accompanied by three dancers from Bahia and one from Guadeloupe. For Hubret Petit-Phar, Corpos was born out of ‘the desire to discuss the issue of physical and sexual representation with Brazilian artists’ and to explore the singularity of their bodies at the crossroads of their cultures and multiple identities. By questioning the black ‘masculine’, the joint work of these two choreographers revisits today's cultural métissage between islanders and mainlanders, West Indians and Brazilians. ‘A way of transforming constrained physical, emotional and psychological spaces into a source of inspiration and imagination, an opportunity to unleash human creativity’ (Augusto Soledade).
