LA MANGROVE
Created in 2007, the company identifies with a fragile ecosystem where one can become lost and liberated—a “Tout-monde” (Édouard Glissant) where roots intertwine and adapt, allowing for possible openings and necessary escapes. Influenced by poetry and mythology, by history and the evolution of society, Hubert Petit-Phar explores themes of resilience and identity in each of his works. The relationship between Human(s) and Territory(ies), flows and memory, lies at the heart of his creative process.
“Aesthetic, political, symbolic borders”: the choreographer questions the concept of borders—centrality, polycentrism, distance, and porosity—with a key focus on the urgency of collectively fighting against all forms of withdrawal, especially identity-based ones.

CORPOS
Hubert Petit-Phar & Augusto Soledade
SYNOPSIS
Bringing together artists from Brazil and Guadeloupe (French West Indies), Corpos examines the black ‘masculine’ to liberate human creativity.
Corpos is an encounter based on a common exploration: ‘the stigmatisation of the black body, the body as a political tool’. Corpos was created by Hubert Petit-Phar, a Guadeloupean, and Augusto Soledade, a choreographer from Bahia, accompanied by three dancers from Bahia and one from Guadeloupe. For Hubret Petit-Phar, Corpos was born out of ‘the desire to discuss the issue of physical and sexual representation with Brazilian artists’ and to explore the singularity of their bodies at the crossroads of their cultures and multiple identities. By questioning the black ‘masculine’, the joint work of these two choreographers revisits today's cultural métissage between islanders and mainlanders, West Indians and Brazilians. ‘A way of transforming constrained physical, emotional and psychological spaces into a source of inspiration and imagination, an opportunity to unleash human creativity’ (Augusto Soledade).

OUTRE-RAGE
SYNOPSIS
After exploring the transatlantic fractures of a journey marked by multiple crossings (from France to the United States, and then a return to Guadeloupe), Hubert Petit-Phar returns to the stage to expose the turmoil of a schizophrenic condition. Psychiatric studies reveal a high prevalence of psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia, in the Caribbean. Among the reasons cited by these studies are migratory paths—especially those of Black individuals—which often lead to economic hardship, cultural dislocation, and social isolation.
While grounding his work in this clinical dimension, Hubert Petit-Phar offers a choreographic and poetic perspective on the issue. The successive skins one wears to adapt to lands that are at once foreign and familiar unsettle notions of identity and inner coherence. Through repeated efforts to adapt, both body and psyche are transformed, and identity’s reference points are disrupted, reshuffled, redistributed. Being a Black man in a society struggling with its own racism, learning the codes of institutional and legitimized cultures, and then having to navigate an insular context where these codes no longer fully apply.
