Clémence Baubant
A performative sound installation
ABOUT
Clémence Baubant is a choreographer based between Occitanie and Guadeloupe, where she is originally from. Her work weaves together creation, research, and history. She explores the notion of identity bricolage — how one assembles an identity from missing pieces, a hybrid cosmogony, or historical fragments. The question of traces — how bodies are traversed by dances and carry others within them — lies at the heart of her research.
Following on from a series of research projects and choreographic creations exploring Caribbean rituals and mythologies, Déboulé is a multidisciplinary, participatory project halfway between a sound installation and a performance. The form is designed for three professional performers and a group of 20 amateurs, who are invited to share their bodily narratives by exploring movement, pulse, walking, breath, and voice. The project explores the essence of rites of passage, those spaces between dusk and dawn when the past, present, and future connect.
